Instructor Background: Phillip Custer has 30 years of experience in Instrumentation and Control Systems. After graduating from college, Phil spent over seven years working for Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX where his duties consisted of calibrating, maintaining, and repairing chemical plant instrumentation and control systems. At Dow, Phil was immersed in Quality and Safety systems. He also implemented new analytical and control designs. Phil and his family moved to beautiful Boise, ID where he worked for Hewlett Packard for over thirteen years. At Hewlett Packard, he designed and built a calibration laboratory, was the major contributor in the design and implementation of a large SCADA System, and became knowledgeable in ISO 9000/14001 policies and procedures. While working for HP, Phil helped startup the ISA Southwest Idaho Section. He has served as President multiple times, and has held other officer positions in this organization. Phil recognized the need in the nation’s market place for companies exhibiting quality calibration services and superior documentation. In 2001, he started Instrument Technologies, Inc. to meet these needs. For over nine years, Instrument Technologies has been providing calibration services, plant startup services, along with Quality System and Instrument/Controls training to almost every type of industry in the United States. This experience has provided Phil and his employees deep insight into individual industry requirements regarding these services. In 2005, Phil researched the market and found that it was difficult for companies to find an educational class that covered almost all process instrumentation along with the basics of control systems. The class, Fundamentals of Process Instrumentation and Control Systems was first developed in 2006. Since then, Phil has brought this training to many industries and personnel which have included operators, maintenance/instrument technicians, and plant engineers. |
